Several tech companies have been partnering with automakers for various reasons. Samsung collaborated with Tesla on self-driving chipsets, OPPO and Volkswagen developed battery flash charging tech and now, Sony and Honda have a little project of their own.
The two Japanese giants are planning to jointly manufacture electric vehicles. The companies have already signed a memorandum of understanding highlighting their plans and goal of a Sony-Honda EV.
The exciting pairing holds a lot of promise as both companies share esteemed reputations in their respective fields.
Sony, known for its strong presence in telecommunications and entertainment, will be responsible for the vehicle’s mobility platform while Honda will be in charge of manufacturing the first model.
Both companies stressed their goal is to produce mobility solutions centered upon safety, entertainment, and adaptability. In a company statement, Sony’s CEO Kenshiro Yoshida says the company’s purpose is to fill the world with emotion using a mix of creativity and technology.
It’s worth noting, this isn’t Sony’s first rodeo. The company has been in the development of EVs and already has two concept cars. The new company by Sony and Honda will be formed this year, with EVs expected to roll out by 2025.
