Finally, the long-awaited Sony Xperia 1 III has been announced. Sony announced a launch event a few weeks ago and we expected them to launch their 2021 flagship, the Xperia 1 III.
Today, Sony has done us justice and lived up to their word by unveiling the Xperia 1 III along with the more affordable Xperia 5 III and Xperia 10 III.
On paper, the smartphone should compete quite easily with the best in the business. For starters, the Xperia 1 III comes with a large 6.5-inch display with a 21:9 aspect ratio.
At first glance, you may confuse it for its predecessor, the Xperia 1 II, but the display is now rated at 4K and has a smooth 120Hz refresh rate.
And it doesn’t end there, powering this beastly phone is none other than Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 chipset clocked at 2.84Ghz coupled with 12GB RAM and internal storage of either 256GB/512GB. Plus, you can easily expand with a Micro SD card if you need to.
As for the camera which is Sony’s core feature of the flagship, a Zeiss-powered quad-camera setup can be located on the rear. Also, one noteworthy feature is that they are sticking with the triple 12MP sensor layout with some revamped changes.
Sony says it has a 24mm wide lens, a 16mm ultrawide lens, and a 70mm telephoto lens that can reach 105mm thanks to the folded periscope lens design.
This means the Xperia will physically move the lenses to get different focal lengths without changing focus. To make all this simpler, the telephoto lens will give you lightning-fast focus. This will help to capture moving objects even at a long-range distance.
Other notables are the Xperia 1 III will be running Android 11 out of the box and will be available in three color options; Frosted Black, Frosted Purple and Frosted Gray. Sony hasn’t revealed pricing details but one thing’s guaranteed, it should burn a hole in your pocket.
Sony also says the phone will available at the start of summer (June 2021) so we should expect it to arrive in Kenya in mid-August.
