The Tecno Camon C8 is the latest offering from Tecno Mobile.

You most probably have about the Tecno Camon C5 and if you liked it, you will then love the Camon C8.The Tecno Camon C8 smartphone is an upgrade of the C5 and is in a nutshell a larger version of the Camon C5.

The Tecno Camon C8 features a 5.5-inch IPS LCD display with a 720 x 1280 pixels resolution. It all sounds amazing but the choice by Tecno to maintain the 720p resolution on a slightly larger display resulted in a drop of the resolution density from 294ppi to 267ppi.

The Tecno Camon C8 mirrors the design concept of the C5 and thus the straight-forward way to differentiate it, is simply by its larger size.

You get a chrome like band around the Smartphone, a feature that gives the smartphone a distant premium look and feel.

CPU: 1.3GHz Quad-core

RAM: 1 GB

Internal Memory: 16 GB

Micro SD: Yes, up to 32 GB

A 1.3GHz Quad-core CPU powers the Tecno Camon C8. This is coupled with some 1GB RAM. I had expected that the Tecno Camon C8 features a slightly refined performance profile since this is exactly what you also get on the C5.

It is however, awesome that the C8 comes with 16GB of internal memory, which is an upgrade from the 8 GB found on the Tecno C5.

Other than that, the Camon C8 runs Android OS, v5.0 Lollipop, a great feature by all standards, but still it wouldn’t have hurt anyone if the Tecno Camon C8 runs Android OS, v5.1 out of the box.

If you have been following Tecno Mobile on their various social media channels, you must have noticed how the company has placed lots on emphasis on the Camon range being a camera-centric.

The camera samples from the 8MP camera of the Tecno Camon C5 were great and thus they can only better with the 13 MP snapper of the Camon C8.

Couple the 13MP rear camera with the 5 MP selfie camera, and you have one of the best camera profile you will find on a Tecno Mobile Smartphone.

Battery and Extras

Battery Capacity: 3000mAh

The Tecno Camon C8 has a 3000mAh battery, an upgrade from the 2500mAh found on the Camon C5.

Verdict

When the rumors of the Camon series surfaced, I was of the impression that the line is all about 4G connectivity but I was wrong, it’s all about the camera.

The Tecno Camon C8 is a product that is all about convincing budget smartphone buyers you don’t have to spend a fortune to get a superficial camera experience. Whether that is true, is a story worth another post.

However, considering that the camera-centric segment is a largely a domain of premium smartphone brands, it will be interesting to see how the smartphone will perform in the Kenyan market.
