Corona virus pandemic to affect the seeding of Android updates to Xiaomi smartphones

Xiaomi-Android-Updates

Xiaomi is one of few budget smartphone brands that takes the seeding of Android updates to its smartphones very serious. It’s one of the reasons why it maintains a cult-like following in countries such as China and India.

However, it appears that the Corona virus epidemic is likely to distort the scheduled release of future Android updates.

To that effect, Xiaomi has released a warning statement informing its customers that Corona Virus (COVID-19) will slow down the company’s android updates.

The Xiaomi Mi A3 is one of the smartphone that is most likely to be affected. The smartphone had an Android 10 update scheduled for earlier this month but has been delayed for a few weeks.

Xiaomi is affected due to the effort made by the government to safeguard the residents of Chinese cities against the deadly virus.

Measures including the restrictions on movements, closure of production facilities and shutdown of major industries, amongst many others, have been put in place to curb the spread of the virus.

Sonal expressed despair in the event of customer dissatisfaction whilst also stating that with only little improvement in the situation, more devices may be affecting in the coming weeks.

There is no confirmed date regarding the release of the updates, however, Xiaomi continues working towards adjusting their schedule.

Earlier in the week, Jumia also reported that the Corona virus epidemic is also likely to affect is bottom line in the first two quarters of 2020.
