Google and Jio were supposed to launch their first joint product today. The low-cost 4G smartphone dubbed JioPhone Next is designed to give more people access to the high-speed network.

The companies, however, have put a pause on that plan and are pushing back the launch by a couple of months. In a joint statement released yesterday, the company noted it has made “considerable progress” and is further testing the smartphone to make advanced refinements.

They also added that the additional time will also help mitigate the current industry-wide, global semiconductor shortages. Some good news though, Jio is working to make it available by early November this year.

Brief info. about the device, the JioPhone Next is an ultra-affordable Android smartphone that will run an optimized version of Android.

It will give users access to features like voice assistance, language translation, a smart camera with AR filters, and much more.

It’s worth noting that, unlike older Jio phones, the JioPhone Next will be sold internationally. Jio is yet to reveal the smartphone’s price but it should make an announcement with more details in the days leading up to the launch.
