Safaricom has partnered up with YouTube to promote and grow the short video content platform YouTube shorts.
The Network provider has offered a two-month campaign that will see Safaricom users enjoy affordable 1GB data bundles for as low as Kshs. 10. Customers will now be able to view and post content on their YouTube channels to nurture a streaming habit for Kenyans.
“In this era of limitless information, we have access to platforms like YouTube Shorts, which allow us to frequently produce and consume content. I believe that this new data bundle offer will help in uplifting new talent by giving them more opportunities to showcase their skills and talents and get recognition at both local and international levels. This is in line with our objective of uplifting one another through our Tuinuane campaign,” said Peter Ndegwa, Safaricom CEO.

“We are excited to go into another partnership with Safaricom to enable more Kenyans to enjoy YouTube. YouTube Shorts is a short-form video experience right on YouTube, for anyone who wants to shoot short, catchy videos using nothing but their mobile phones. As of July 2021 videos in the Shorts player – which helps people around the world watch short videos on YouTube – were receiving over 30 billion daily views. YouTube Shorts now has over 1.5bn monthly users” said Mahesh Bhalerao, YouTube Director, EMEA Product Partnerships.
Since being introduced in September 2020 and released last year, YouTube shorts has quickly grown, surpassing up to 6.5 billion daily views globally. The brief, funny, and straight-to-the-point looping videos have appealed to both millennials and Gen Z, to the detriment of our dwindling attention span.
The new offer is under Safaricom’s latest brand campaign dubbed “Tuinuane” which aims to encourage Kenyans to uplift one another. To purchase the daily Kshs. 10 for 1GB data, just dial *544# and select option 0.
