Article-Update

Short-form videos are now all the rage and it’s not hard to see why social media users are addicted to making and consuming them.

They are often brief, funny and straight to the point and they appeal to our dwindling attention span.

Tiktok is by default the most popular short-form video aggregator app. The app has grown it’s user base by more than 125% in the last two years and has been able to pull close to 900 million first-time downloads in the last twelve months.

It was therefore, just a matter of time before YouTube made a move towards getting a piece of the pie. YouTube currently has a vast amount of licensed music in its catalog and this could give it a nice launch spring board.

It will be interesting to see if the plans for Shorts will materialize and also whether the final product will be able to go head to head with TikTok and the other players of what is now becoming a crowded niche.
