YouTube Go facing doomsday come August; Google shares termination plans

Some years back, we saw YouTube Go arrive to serve users as a lightweight alternative to the regular app and reduce the burden of access. Now it seems, the Android Go app will be shut down in August after the platform announced in its forums.

Apparently, when YouTube Go was introduced five years ago, users were not able to use a dark theme, post, comment, or even create content, features today that have become a crucial part of the platform, hence its departure.

Also, Google has been getting better at adapting to slower data conditions for instance you can now manually choose what resolution you want your videos to be in the regular app, defeating the purpose of a dedicated lite app.

Furthermore, the company claimed that plans are in motion to introduce new options for controlling data consumption. Not to mention smartphone makers these days manufacture better entry-level smartphones with more RAM and faster processing, helping regular apps to run just fine with no lag issues.

There’s still no set deadline on when access will be cut off completely, however, Google says the app will begin shutting down in August. The video platform is advising users to switch to the regular app or visit youtube.com in their browsers.
