Back in March, reliable Apple analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo claimed Apple was working on its first foldable iPhone set to be unveiled in 2023.

In a new investor note obtained by 9to5Mac, Kuo reinforces the claims and adds that the company is expected to ship up to 20 million units in 2023.

While the specs are still unknown, Kuo does say the phone’s display will be about 8-inches when unfolded and will have QHD+ resolution. Additionally, the supplier will once again be Samsung.

In the note, Kuo stated that, at the present, foldable phones integrate smartphones and tablets. But he predicts in the future, foldable devices will blur the product segmentations between smartphones, tablets, and laptops.

He further adds that, with its cross-product ecosystems and hardware design advantages, Apple will be the biggest winner in the new foldable device trend.

Its also worth noting, the upcoming device will adopt a silver nanowire touch solution that will be needed for future foldable devices that support more than a single fold.

Keep in mind, though, that even Kuo says the news is highly speculative. Apple is waiting on competing brands like OPPO, Vivo, and Xiaomi who are all launching foldable smartphones by the end of this year, to act as a sort of “litmus test” to gauge the market’s response.

If the market does not adapt to the new form, Apple will easily scrape off all foldable plans.
