Apple CEO, Tim Cook, through a letter to shareholders has cited cheap battery replacements as one of the reasons behind the slowdown of iPhone sales.
iPhones are some of the most compact smartphones on the market. They rank low on the repairability index and most owners of iPhone prefer replacing their aging iPhones as opposed to simply switching faulty components.
However, Apple in 2018 admitted to slowing down iPhones in order to match the degrading battery.
An uproar ensued and due to that, the company discounted the cost of replacing iPhone batteries.
One of the ripple effects of that move is that more people are now replacing their batteries instead of buying new phones.

That together with a myriad of macro-economic factors led to a slowdown of iPhone sales. It, however, not an entirely gloomy affair.
Apple reported a revenue of $84 Billion and currently has an 80% share of the premium smartphone market.
