Here’s why OPPO will no longer include chargers in some of its devices

Nowadays, reputable brands like Apple are no longer offering chargers in smartphone boxes and it seems like soon, they will be a rare sight to see in more devices.

During a European launch event for the Reno8 series, OPPO’s VP of sales, Billy Zhang, hinted at doing away with chargers for some OPPO smartphones. “We will take the charger out of the box in the next year for several products, said the VP.

“We have a plan. It’s not that easy for consumers to get access to [SuperVOOC chargers], so we have to keep it in the box. However, as we are expanding our business operations, we are looking to take chargers out of the box and put them in the store so that our users are able to buy the chargers and continue using them even when they upgrade their devices,” he added.

Although details on the devices are still uncertain, the brand’s motive is pretty obvious. OPPO, like Apple and Samsung, is reducing their carbon footprint and saving the environment through plastic waste reduction.

This goes hand in hand with the EU Commission’s plan to remove chargers from all smartphone boxes as well as having a standard USB Cable(USB-C) for charging gadgets.

Now as stated, the brand is only looking to eliminate the item in some of their devices, meaning a majority of OPPO products will still ship in with the piece. Additionally, the brand will make chargers available at stores, so customers can purchase them easily.
