OPPO has officially unveiled three premium smartphones, the Reno, Reno 10X and Reno 5G. The smartphones launched earlier on in April in China and this marks the global launch of the three smartphones.

Let’s talk a bit about the Reno brand. The smartphone market is segmented into three broad categories. We have the low-end, mid-range and high-end segments.

These segments aren’t created equal, the high-end segment is the most profitable and whoever has the largest share there, makes the most from the market.

Apple dominates this segment and that’s one of the reasons why it has the largest share of the profit pool.

The Reno Brand targets the high-end of the smartphone and it’s the sub-brand that OPPO plans to use to increase its share in the high-end segment of the market.

The Reno Smartphones are gorgeous and OPPO went all out to ensure that they pack a technical profile that will get people talking.

We are talking about a true full-screen experience, an extremely powerful performance profile, impressive camera features and the latest in fast-charging technology.

The highlight of the smartphone is, however, the motorized shark fin pop-up camera. No other smartphone in the market has it and is one of the by-products of the OPPO’s research and development initiatives.

We don’t know if the RENO will launch in Kenya. However, OPPO Find X made its way here, so it probable that the RENO might also launch locally. Let’s just wait and see.

Speaking of the pop-up camera, OPPO is the de facto market leader when it comes to motorized selfie cameras. The company recently launched the OPPO F11 Pro, and the smartphone packs a neat pop-up selfie camera.
