The Tecno Boom J5 is officially available in Kenya. The Boom J5 was inspired by the hot selling Tecno Boom J7, but it features some slightly watered down specifications that make it slightly cheaper than its surrogate.

That said, here is what the Tecno Boom J5 has to offer.

Display Size: 4.5 Inches

Display Type: IPS LCD

Screen Resolution: 854×480 Pixels

Screen Resolution Density: 218 ppi

You get a 4.5-inch IPS LCD display with the Tecno Boom J5. The display boasts of a 854×480 Pixels resolution, a downgrade from the 1280 x 720 pixels display you will find on the Boom J7.

Also, the Tecno Boom J5 display lacks any form of screen protection and thus a screen protector will come in handy to keep scratches and smudges at bay.

Design

The Tecno Boom J5 features a slightly smaller frame obviously due to the smaller display and has a generic candy bar smartphone design.

The Boom J5 smartphone design is quite disappointing as it lacks the premium luster that makes its older sibling, the Boom J7, awesome.

However, it is commendable that Tecno decided to include the red notification light that surrounds the menu key as well as the Boom Speakers that are placed on lower bottom section of the Boom J5.

The performance profile of the Tecno Boom J5 is the most exciting section of the smartphone. You get a technical profile that is exactly similar to that found on the Boom J7 with some significant improvements in terms of the operating system.

You get a 1.3 GHz Quad-core coupled with 1 GB RAM and some 16 GB for your files. The highlight of the boom J5 however, is that it runs Android Lollipop 5.1 out of the box.

Compare this with the Android 4.4 KitKat that comes with the Boom J7 and you have one of the core reasons why the Boom J5 is a solid budget smartphone. Android Lollipop 5.1 is particularly famous for its battery saving abilities, a feature I can personally vouch for.

The Tecno Boom J5 features a 5 MP rear camera and a 2 MP camera for your selfies. I can’t really say much about this as it is pretty much what you get on similar budget smartphones.

The Tecno Boom J5 features a Li-Ion 1950 mAh which provides enough battery juice to take you through the day.

It is an open secret that Tecno Mobile runs the budget smartphone segment in Kenya. The Boom J5 is just another device that will ensure the company maintains its lead in the market.
