You know how we pay for Netflix, WiFi, or any other subscription out there to use their service, well, what if you could pay a subscription fee to use your handset?

Apple is reportedly working on an iPhone subscription program similar to iCloud storage and Apple Music subscriptions.

As reported by Bloomberg, the Cupertino-based company is working on a regular subscription service for their devices and other consumer products.

It’s worth noting, Apple does offer an upgrade program that allows users to pay for their smartphone between 12 to 24 months.

According to Bloomberg, however, this upgrade program wouldn’t be spread across 12 to 24 months, but for the foreseeable future at a yet-to-be-determined monthly fee instead.

Still uncertain whether you’d get to keep your device after a certain set of payments, but in comparison to iCloud and Apple Music, this might not be the case.

Leasing programs aren’t a new concept, although this is the first time we’ve seen a subscription-based program from a top-line manufacturer.

It’s rather worrying considering most of your personal tech wouldn’t actually be yours and could be taken from you at a moment’s notice. It would, however, make sense to people who want to experiment or short-term users.
