Android Pie is out: Check out some of the coolest features

Android P features

It’s official, the next version of Android will go by the name Pie.

Huh?

Okay, for those not familiar with Android naming nomenclature, here is a brief low-down. Google normally names versions of the Android OS after confectionary. We already have Android 6 (Marshmallow), Android 7 (Nougat), Android 8 (Oreo) and we now have Android 9 which will go by name Pie.

Google officially unveiled Android P yesterday and the OS packs a number of exciting features that we can’t wait to try out. Check out some of those features.

Adaptive Battery

Adaptive battery is the highlight of Android P. We mentioned that in a previous article. With the feature, Android uses Artificial intelligence to learn your usage patterns and adapts to them.

For example, if you like your brightness low when checking email but like it a bit high when watching videos, Android now learns about that and adjusts the brightness automatically.

App Actions

Android Pie can predict what you would like to do next based on the context. For instance, plugging in your earphones in the morning could mean that you want to listen to your favorite tracks, using the info Android P can launch the music player.

Slices

Android P Slices

Slices is one of the coolest features of Android Pie. Slices shows you relevant info when you are likely to need it. For instance, searching for the Uber App at 5:30 PM could trigger a slice that shows you the cost of your ride home.

The above are just some of the exciting features that are packed into Android P. The OS comes with a lot more.

So, how do you get Android P?

Android P is currently available to just a handful of Android smartphones (mostly Pixel devices). However, if you using an Android One device such as Nokia 7 or Infinix Note 5, you are likely to be among the first to receive the Android Pie update.
