OPPO & Vivo likely to push Huawei out of the top 5 smartphone vendors list in 2021

A recent forecast report by TrendForce, points to OPPO and Vivo pushing Huawei out of the top 5 smartphone vendors list.

The rather grim forecast for what was at one time predicted to become the largest smartphone vendor was rather expected considering a series of unfortunate events that have plagued the brand.

It all started with the ban that was imposed on the brand by the US commerce department in 2019, a ban that had a massive negative effect on the brand especially in international markets. Then came the pandemic that saw people cut back on non-essential expenditures.

To give this a numerical perspective, Huawei shipped 240 million smartphones in 2019, the brand then shipped 170 units in 2020 and the TrendForce reports forecasts that Huawei will ship 45 million units in 2021.

OPPO and Vivo are expected to fill in this void with the two brands expected to ship 185 and 145 million devices in 2021.

However, this is a forecast and as history has proven, humans can be terrible at predicting the future. With the changes in the geo-political scene, Huawei could still have a chance at reclaiming its former position.
