OPPO held a “flash charging open day” to announce its new charging technologies, which aim to ensure battery safety during fast charging. The company claims that these technologies will not only speed up charging but will also increase a battery’s lifespan.

More specifically, a battery will have lost only 20% of its capacity after 1500 cycles, which exceeds requirements by 300%, quite an impressive feat to achieve.

Durability was not the only agenda on the table, as 65W super flash charging is also now 20% faster, managing to top a 4500mAh battery in 30 minutes. So, what technologies exactly did OPPO implement to achieve such good results?

For one, they started with an internal string double cell, which is an innovative way to pack two cells in one battery enclosure. A layer of polymer allows the two cells to work independently from each other.

The essence of this innovation is to reduce waste of invalid space while maintaining the safety performance of the dual cell. Plus, it increases the capacity by at least 5% year on year.

Smart charging promises to regulate the best charging current with the lowest allowable heat for different battery capacities. Speaking of heat, OPPO has also managed to halve heat generation by using a low-impedance fuse.

And last but not least, OPPO will implement GaN (Gallium Nitride) to the circuitry of its smartphones. GaN offers better voltage resistance, making for small chargers and more efficient at transferring current.

No details have been released as to what products will use these technologies, so we’ll have to wait and see.
