The OPPO Reno5 F is a mid-range Android smartphone that became available in Kenya late in March 2021. The Reno5 F packs an exciting technical profile with the highlight being on its fast charging and camera profile.

That said, here’s a dive into what the OPPO Reno5 F has to offer.

Key Specifications of the OPPO Reno5 F

Battery Capacity: Li-Po 4310 mAh

The battery profile of the OPPO Reno5 F is a key focus of the smartphone. The Reno5 F packs a large Li-Po 4310 mAh battery and even though the battery could easily take you through two days of moderate usage, this isn’t the most exciting feature of the smartphone.

That goes to the inbuilt 30W VOOC flash charging tech. It’s always great to have a large capacity battery but this advantage will be obliterated if the smartphone takes ages to charge. This is where the 30W VOOC charging feature slides in. With the flash charging tech, a 5-minute charge will enable you to stream close to three hours of video.

In addition to this, the smartphone packs two additional energy management features, you get a Super Power Saving Mode and a Super Nighttime Standby. With the Super Power Saving Mode, you can make a one-hour call with just 5% of battery juice in the tank. The Super Nighttime Standby, on the other hand, optimizes battery usage at night when you are asleep, a time when smartphones have the annoying tendency of draining the battery while performing unnecessary tasks.

Camera

Rear Camera: 48+8+2+2 MP

Secondary Camera: 32 MP

LED Flash: Yes

The camera is the other focal point of the OPPO Reno5 F (pun unintended). True to this, the smartphone packs a generous quad-camera set-up. You get a 48 MP sensor as the main camera, an 8MP sensor for ultra-wide shots, a 2MP sensor for macro (close up shots), and a 2MP telephoto lens (for Zoom).

That’s just the hardware. In the context of related software, you get AI Color Portrait Video to literary steal the show, a monochrome (black and white mode) to make your subjects stand out, and a Dual-View Video mode to share the love.

Display

Display Size: 6.43 inches

Display Type: AMOLED

Screen Resolution: 1080 x 2400 pixels

Screen Resolution Density: 409 PPI

The display is another prominent feature of the OPPO Reno5 F. It’s probably the first thing you will notice about the smartphone. The display is simply dazzling. This isn’t just about the size, it’s also about the AMOLED display tech that OPPO decided to use on the smartphone.

In addition to this, the display is of the Punch-Hole architecture, therefore, you get to enjoy a whole lot of screen real estate, a view that is often ruined by hard to ignore notch found on other smartphones.  Other than this, the OPPO Reno5 F display packs an in-display fingerprint sensor and you just have to tap to unlock the smartphone.

Design

Dimensions: 160.1 x 73.2 x 7.8 mm

OPPO does know how to make gorgeous smartphones and the brand didn’t drop the ball with the RenoF. The most eye-candy feature of the smartphone is most likely its svelte frame. The smartphone is so thin and this gives you a premium feel when holding it and this makes the smartphone look a lot more expensive than it costs.

Performance

OPPO-Reno5F-Performance

Operating System: Android 11 (ColorOS 11.1)

CPU: 2.2 GHz Octa-core (MediaTek Helio P95)

RAM: 8 GB

Internal Memory: 128 GB

Micro SD: Yes

A 2.2 GHz Octa-core chipset powers the OPPO Reno5 F and this is coupled with 8GB RAM. The chipset is based on MediaTek’s APU 2.0 engineering and thus the smartphone is optimized for performance gaming, photography, and efficient energy management.

The choice of a Mediatek chipset is probably a decision to keep the bill of materials down. However, I feel OPPO would have made a strategic decision to future-proof the Reno5 F by using a 5G chipset on the smartphone. As you might know, 5G is now in Kenya and the Reno5 F could be an excellent device to back up the One Plus Nord N10 5G.

However, this would have bumped up the cost of materials of the smartphone and the smartphone won’t fit into the mid-range price category.

That aside, the OPPO Reno5 F offers 128 GB as internal storage and includes a micro-SD card slot for you to expand the memory.

In the software context, the Reno5 F runs Android 11 out of the box.
